The international pressure to address Global warming and dependency on fossil fuels combined with rapid growth of economies such as India and China have led to an acceleration of attention in renewable energy generation.

There is substantial political and public will to encourage development of this sector both formally -via many countries Kyoto and EU Commitments, but also politically with increasing public support for environmentally sustainable power generation.
